from the 17th Nov to Dec 12th
Official Opening Sunday November 17th at 5pm
Showcasing a collection from textile artist Caroline Sharkey including many of the Outback Landscapes at Uluru completed in August this year while Art/Craftsperson in Residence.
“Embellishing the surface is my way of creating textures that are interesting and change the way you as the viewer look at fabric. I use fabric and threads as my medium instead of paper and paint… my sewing machine instead of a brush. For the main theme of an artwork I plan, sketch and draw out a design and make patterns for the shapes that will then be stitched, shaded and thread painted to bring them to life. Most of my designs are influenced by my love of the Australian Landscape, the unique Animals, Flora and Reef Fish. I am driven by colour and strive to find that special combination that has the WOW! Factor. I travel to teach my techniques of fabric embellishments and textured surface workshops and love this journey that I am on to inspire and encourage everyone to experience the creative side of Textile Art.” – Caroline Sharkey
Headlands and Heartlands
Sharing the gallery will be David and May Southgate with their exhibition “Headlands and Heartlands”. David and May ran Hungry Head Pottery for 25 years and have produced a variety of decorative and functional stoneware to compliment their paintings in this exhibition.
The collection especially celebrates their love of painting the local coast and beaches. Headlands and Heartlands includes May’s acrylics, David’s oils and pastels, and art prints by both the artists.
